Cycling: Archibald nets pursuit title with stylish win

Capital cyclist Katie Archibald produced a stunning performance to land the two-kilometre individual pursuit
title in some style at the British Junior Track Championships in Manchester on Saturday.

The Edinburgh Racers rider, who only took up the sport this season, posted the quickest time in qualifying to secure a gold medal ride-off with Lucy Garner, the world junior road race champion, who had beaten her Scottish rival in the points race. Garner started strongly in the final and looked to be heading for her second title when she built a comfortable lead at the halfway point. But Archibald stuck to her task and gradually reeled in then overtook the English rider. And, in the closing stages, she pulled clear to stop the clock at two minutes 30.60 seconds and take the win by a substantial margin of around five seconds.
