Cusiter back in rugby with Boroughmuir

Boroughmuir have received
a major boost ahead of the new rugby season with the return to action of Calum Cusiter.

Older brother of Scotland and Lions star Chris, Calum took time out to develop his career outside the game and to get married. Now the one-time Scotland under-21 (1999) and clubs’ (2006) international scrum half has re-discovered his hunger for the game and took part in Boroughmuir’s opening pre-season 32-21
victory at Gala last weekend when the team ran in five tries.

Manager Peter Blackhall said: “Calum still has all his trademark footwork and looked as if he’d never been away.

“We are pleased to include him in our 25-strong squad for a visit to Tynedale this Saturday with competition at scrum half sure to be fierce and also including Sam Johnston and Andy Watt.

“The Gala match was played over three periods and we gave debuts to ex-Watsonians prop Kian Coertze, Mike Brown, a hooker from Melbourne, and Anthony Reen, who has joined from RHC Cougars to bolster back-row resources.

“Our lower teams are at home to Darlington on Saturday and things are building up nicely to our Round Robin tournament on August 18.” Invitees are Currie, Dundee, Stirling County and Wharfedale, now coached by Tommy McGee, the former Boroughmuir and Leeds prop.
