Cup round-Up: Crooks steals show for Elgin

Elgin City caused arguably the upset of the third round as they beat Livingston 2-1 at Borough Briggs. Craig Gunn had Elgin ahead and, although Iain Russell found an equaliser, Jason Crooks got the winner with 12 minutes to go.

Peterhead also got the better of higher-division opposition as Ryan Strachan and Neil McVitie helped them to a 2-0 win over First Division Cowdenbeath. A hat-trick from Kevin McDonald propelled Alloa to a fine 4-2 win over Raith Rovers, while Airdrie United survived a scare as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Beith. Threave came so close to beating Stenhousemuir for the second time in four years, but Alex Williams' last-gasp goal snatched a 2-2 draw at Ochilview.

Ayr United ended Sunnybank's run as they won 5-0 at Somerset Park. Paul Tosh scored twice as Montrose came from behind to beat Whitehill Welfare 3-1 at Links Park, while Craig Malcolm's brace helped ensure Stranraer's progress as they came from behind to beat local rivals Girvan 4-2 at Stair Park.
