Cup final clubs will unite for Belle Ross

SHINTY: The Sutherland Cup final between rivals Newtonmore and Kingussie today will be preceded by a minute’s silence in honour of Belle Ross.

Mrs Ross, mother of Kingussie Shinty legend Ronald Ross MBE, passed away this week and both sides of the divide will be united in memory since she was brought up in a Newtonmore shinty-loving family.

“It is one of those rare occasions where both villages will be united,” said Joe Taylor, Chieftain of Kingussie Shinty Club.

On the park, Newtonmore will start as favourites after thumping Kings 7-1 in the only other fixture so far this term.

However, Kingussie have veteran lynchpin Rory Fraser who, at 48, is still in fine form and will marshal the young defence.
