Cup comeback for Kerse

Kerse Juveniles edged out Hutchison Vale to win the SPORTSassist South East Region under-17 Cup at Dunbar's New Countess Park.

Hutchie opened the scoring after four minutes when the Kerse defence failed to clear a corner and Haydn Crane pounced to finish off the chance.

Kerse had claims for a penalty dismissed and were further frustrated on 23 minutes when Vale extended their lead. The corner from the right was played in by Christopher McCartney and Crane scored at the front post.

Moments before half time, Kerse halved the deficit in controversial circumstances when Kerse captain Ross Hepburn was awarded a goal despite his shot appearing to have been cleared off the line.

As the rain subsided, Kerse began to dominate and Ross Maguire's 65th-minute free kick from out wide evaded everyone and found the bottom corner.

Kerse won the game three minutes from time when Hepburn's looping header found the net.
