Cross country: Kenenisa Bekele’s back

Three-time Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele will aim for a fourth Great Edinburgh International cross country title after the Ethiopian legend was confirmed in the line-up for the Holyrood Park event on 7 January.

Bekele, 16 times a world cross champion, will take on a field that will also include his fellow Beijing gold medallists Asbel Kiprop and Brimin Kipruto.

“I feel very comfortable starting my important Olympic year by competing in Edinburgh,” said Bekele. “Because of all the wonderful cross countrys I ran there, and of course the memories of becoming world champion in Edinburgh after losing my spike during the race, it feels like coming home to race in Edinburgh against the best in the world.”
