Croall in seventh heaven as he seals Meadowbank title

Capital cyclist Bruce Croall sealed a seventh successive Meadowbank National Track League title with two weeks to spare after another impressive outing in the latest round.

Croall led a clean sweep of City of Edinburgh riders when he came home ahead of Nicky Hall and Phil Trodden in the 12-lap scratch, then posted a win in the sprint and took the honours ahead of Trodden and Hall in the 15 kilometre scratch.

That leaves him with an unassailable lead over Dave Martin (Bicycleworks), who took the honours in the elimination race.

While the men’s title is decided, the women’s silverware is still up for grabs. Louise Haston (City of Edinburgh) remains in pole position but she can still be caught by teenager Katie Archibald (Edinburgh Racers).

Archibald is currently competing at the British Junior Championships in Manchester.

And her decision to make the trip south was justified with a silver medal in the points race behind world junior road race champion, Lucy Garner. Archibald led the contest with one sprint remaining, but her earlier efforts to break clear took their toll and she was
overhauled by Garner.
