Croall has eye on seventh title in a row

Capital cyclist Bruce Croall will launch his bid for a seventh successive title when the Meadowbank National Track League gets underway this evening (first event 7.15pm).

Croall’s City of Edinburgh team-mate Charline Joiner will be looking to repeat her win in the women’s category, while Ayrton Pellet (Edinburgh RC) attempts to retain the junior trophy and the youths’ competition should, as ever, be an open contest.

The start of competition was delayed by a week after event organisers failed to reach agreement on maintenance of the London Road velodrome with the facility’s owners, City of Edinburgh Council, whose implementation of new fire regulations caused problems last year.

However, that issue has now been resolved, and a partnership formed with The East of Scotland Track Promoters’ Association will take charge of maintenance, ensuring the track will remain in use in the foreseeable future for both training and competition.
