Yousaf turns tide for Drumpellier

A BRILLIANT unbeaten century by Rashid Yousaf inspired Drumpellier to kick-start their Premiership (West) campaign with victory over Stirling County at New Williamfield.

In one of the few fixtures to dodge the elements, Yousaf’s effort was one of the most spectacular of the season in the league and County were unable to recover when it mattered most.

He thumped 104 from just 107 deliveries during his 161-minute stay at the crease – propelling Drumps to 245.

The highlight of the knock was a huge six which sailed over the score box and into the River Forth.

Stirling lost wickets at regular intervals and the outcome would have been even more clear cut had it not been for the spate of wides delivered by the Coatbridge side’s wayward attack.

Ally Rawlinson was an exception to the trend early in his stint, firing down his first four overs without giving away a single run.

Yousaf followed up by getting rid of the dangerous Josh Edwards for 38.

The County tail put up brave resistance, but Gordon Shaw snapped up the all-important final wicket in the 46th over.

Dougie Lockhart turned back the clock to set up an easy win for title-chasing West of Scotland against struggling Uddingston at Bothwell Castle Policies.

The former international star reached 106 as West cruised to 239 for seven, another ex-Saltire John Blain weighing in with 32.

Uddy’s target was amended to 219 from 41 overs, but they were curbed to 107 for three when the weather took a hand – ten runs adrift of what was required at that stage.

There was another curtailed encounter at Myreside, where East Zone homesters Watsonians brushed off capital rivals Grange by 39 runs.

Andrew Brock (50 not out) and Stuart Moffat had carried Grange to 193 and when the rain came it made things easier for Sonians.

And Scotland overseas ace Jean Symes made a watchful 54 not out to make sure of the triumph as they made 110 for two after 23.2 overs.

In the First Division (West), the experience of Scotland all-rounder Moneeb Iqbal proved crucial as Weirs snuffed out the challenge of visitors Kelburne at Albert Park.

In another rain-affected contest veteran Dougie Wylie hit 37 not out to guide Kelburne to 97 for seven in their 33 overs.

And in tricky conditions, Iqbal kept his cool to make an unbeaten 38 in the seven-wicket success for the home side.
