Ross Paterson leaps up after 183 for Grange third

SIX days after hitting 183 not out for the club’s third XI Ross Paterson will debut for Barclays Grange as they head to Goldenacre to take on Heriot’s this afternoon.

The former Loretto School pupil smashed the three figures last Sunday in a comfortable defeat of Watsonians third XI at Newfield in East League Division Four and now finds himself catapulted into the top flight.

The attack will be without Gordon Goudie (Saltires duty) so Chris Sole or Josh Edwards are likely to open the bowling with Raj Routray. Drew Weir has also dropped out.

Opening batsman George Munsey will be keen to get back out after his match winning 110 not out against Watsonians at Myreside last time out.

The hosts, perhaps unsurprisingly after a 104-run victory over SMRH seven days ago, are unchanged.

That means captain Steve Knox will open the batting with Dave Ross, and Adam Lockhart-Krause – who, like Knox, scored a century last time out – will come in at three.

That encounter is third versus fourth in the fledgling table while the two unbeaten sides, Aberdeenshire and Arbroath, are meeting at Mannofield.

The home side are unchanged from last week’s win over Carlton, meaning that Australian teenager Daya Singh will again open the bowling with Tyler Buchan and try and build on his growing reputation.

Arbroath are boosted by the return of their own new fast bowler on the Scottish cricketing scene with Alvin Pollard coming back into the side having missed the victory over Stoneywood-Dyce.

Bryce Carnegie also comes in to the XI with Calvin Burnett on Saltires duty and Matthew Hurst dropping out.

Aberdeenshire have won five from five completed matches in league and Scottish Cup so far this term while Arbroath have won four from four, so it has all the makings of an early season cracker.

Last year’s champions, Watsonians, are without Saltires’ duo Ewan Chalmers and Dewald Nel as they host Carlton looking for their first league win of the summer.

Fraser Watts will skipper the visitors as Preston Mommsen is with the Saltires, as is Gordon Drummond. Ali Shah, Sean Olivier and Matt Wells are also out.

In for Carlton come Matt Crowther for a top team debut after a century in the seconds last week, Jamie Kerr and teenagers Haris Aslam and Ruari Macpherson.

The latter’s inclusion means he will be joining brother Kyle in the top team.

Bottom club SMRH travel to Stoneywood-Dyce with Rich Hannam replacing the injured Martin Speirs.

The hosts have brought in teenager Adam Shah and ex-skipper George Ninan as well as Martin Reid and David Rosie.
