Marchmont pick up key Largo win

An unbeaten half-century from Mudassir Ahmed helped Marchmont to a much-needed win over Largo in East One.

Like all other clubs in the area, the Cavalry Park men have been frustrated by the wet weather over the last five or six weeks, but they headed to Fife and managed to get a 40-over-a-side match against the bottom club.

Before the match, Marchmont had only won two league
encounters in 2012, but they made that three with a good
all-round performance.

With the hosts batting first, it was Euan Granger and Davi Sardesai who did the main damage with the ball for the visitors. Granger took 3-35 and Sardesai 2-20 as Largo were
restricted to 159-7 from their
allotted overs.

In reply, Ahmed’s 61 not out was the mainstay of the Marchmont innings with a superb cameo of 36 from just 18 balls from opening batsman Corne van Jaarsfeld setting them on their way nicely.

They eventually won by five wickets with just over three overs to spare.

Elsewhere in the East Leagues, it was ‘same again’ with matches falling foul of the wet weather.

In Division Nine, Musselburgh III managed to record a win over SMRH IV. On the
artificial wicket at Inverleith, the East Lothian men made 117-8 batting first. In reply, the home side were 79 all out as the visitors won by 38 runs.
