Hoffmann: Saltires must tame Katich

FORMER Scotland hero Paul Hoffmann reckons fellow Aussie Simon Katich will be the main danger man when the Saltires go into battle with Hampshire tomorrow.

The sides go head-to- head at Uddingston, where Hoffmann is now the head groundsman.

And apart from relishing the opportunity to watch star turn Katich in action, he is keen to receive feedback from him about the strip he has prepared for the important CB40 tussle.

Victory for the Scots would hugely boost their quest to qualify for the knock-out stages for the first time.

According to Hoffmann, the gritty Katich will be the barrier they will have to overcome.

“Simon is one of those Aussie batsmen who regard their wicket as being more precious than their grannies,” he said.

“He is in the same bracket as Allan Border and Justin Langer in that he has the most tremendous depth of concentration when he is out there in the middle.”

Katch warmed up for the trip to Bothwell Castle Policies by hammering a superb century in the County Championship showdown with Yorkshire at Headingley.
