Graham Onions poses big threat to Scots hopes

THE presence of England international bowler Graham Onions is set to add spice to the occasion when Scotland attempt to finish their shaky YB40 campaign with a flourish.

Preston Mommsen’s Saltires square up to Durham at Clydesdale’s Titwood ground tomorrow – before facing Hampshire and Lancashire at the same venue in midweek.

And Onions, who is currently rated the most accurate seamer on the county stage, could spearhead the Durham attack after being left out of the England line-up yesterday at the start of the fourth Ashes Test on his home turf at Chester-le-Street.

Scots coach Pete Steindl has recalled former skipper Gordon Drummond and Matt Cross for the triple-header in Glasgow.

Rookie Ruaidhri Smith looks certain to start after producing an impressive all-round display against Surrey at the Oval last weekend.

He grabbed three wickets, snapped up two catches and sparked a run-out.

And Smith has also been enjoying some good form with the bat recently, scoring 81 for Glamorgan’s second XI against Warwickshire’s seconds.
