English sees bright future for Ferguslie

MICHAEL English is convinced Ferguslie are on the rise again after several years in the doldrums. And he reckons they can build on their latest victory over Poloc to challenge for promotion come the end of August, writes David Kelso.

English laid the foundations for the success at Shawholm with a five-wicket burst, however he sidestepped praise to divert the plaudits in the direction of Jamey Carruthers. “Jamey bowled 13 overs in one stint, giving away only 25 runs and 
deserved more than just one wicket,” said English. “He then came back into the spotlight to strike the winning runs.”

English added: “The future looks bright because we are a young squad – six of the current starting line-up are under 21. With two wins in a row, I am hoping we have found the winning habit. We also had a superb victory over Dumfries in the Scottish Cup. It is a case of 
establishing consistency and momentum and we are definitely talented enough to do that.”

English and Carruthers pegged Poloc to 165 all out 
before Alan Mories made 32 to bolster the chase.

East Kilbride hammered Weirs by 83 runs at Torrance House, with Greenock winning at Prestwick and Stenhousemuir snuffing out Kelburne at The Tryst. In the Eastern Zone, Freuchie’s miserable season took another downward lurch as they lost to neighbours Falkland for the third time in six days.

Having been defeated in the SC40 and British Village Cup ties, the biggest blow came for Freuchie at Muir Road where they were shot out for only 58 in reply to 225. Newcomers Glenrothes stay top, thanks to a win against struggling Dundee HSFP, former Scotland skipper Ryan Watson finishing with a huge six. And four West Lothian batsmen topped the 30 mark to set up their success at Penicuik.
