Cricket: Wilcock has proved a big hit for Edinburgh South

Ben Wilcock has had a season to remember in East league cricket by setting a new club record score of 152 for Edinburgh South which is expected to be recognised at the annual awards ceremony on Saturday.

The 25-year-old kiwi, from the same Hamilton High School stable which produced celebrated Black Cap Scott Styris, achieved his landmark
innings against Freuchie
2nds at Inch Park in Division Two.

That helped the club finished third in division two and Wilcock, who averaged 103, has provided another boost by agreeing to stay on for another season. “My visa is for two years so the plan is to
remain in Edinburgh and maybe play some rugby with Lismore who share our facilities at Inch Park,” explained Wilcock.

“Previously my highest score was 141 while at school and since I also picked up a few wickets (14) with my medium pace bowling usually as first change there’s a lot to look
back on.

“My 152 included half a
dozen sixes and I was really just pleased to get some time at the crease.

“There were only seven league games due to the weather and we usually found ourselves
batting second so that I had a few not-outs.”
