Cricket: Scotland v Pakistan hit by washout

SCOTLAND’s long wait for an official ODI win against a Test nation goes on after yesterday’s clash with Pakistan was wrecked by rain.

The Scots had hoped to avenge Friday’s defeat in the second encounter of the two-match series at The Grange, Edinburgh.

However, torrential rain on Saturday left parts of the outfield saturated and, despite the efforts of the ground-staff and several inspections the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Ian Ramage carried out several inspections before concluding in one last mid-afternoon look at 2.30 that no play would be possible.

The postponement was a major disappointment for a large crowd of mainly Pakistan supporters who had turned up to see their favourites. Yesterday’s KO was the latest blow for Cricket Scotland who last year were forced to cancel a glamour clash with England due to flood damage at the Edinburgh venue.

Pete Steindl’s side will now revert to their guise as the Saltires for next weekend’s Bank Holiday YB40 double header against Derbyshire and Surrey, also at The Grange. They are next in ODI action against Kenya in July while they will entertain another super power, Australia, in September.
