Cricket Scotland suffer cup loss to Holland

The pair raised hopes that Scotland could overcome another poor start to their innings - and a dreadful beginning to Friday’s action.

But the visitors, who drew their opening match with Afghanistan, ultimately fell well short of their target of 201 in Voorburg thanks to a clinical spell of bowling from Holland captain Peter Borren.

Berrington and Preston Mommsen resumed play on the final day on 51 for three but the latter was quickly caught out by Borren off the bowling of Roelof van der Merwe, failing to add to his overnight total of 18.

Worse was to follow as Josh Davey fell for a duck to Van Der Merwe, thanks to Stephan Myburgh’s catch, with Scotland on 52 runs.

Taylor had top-scored for the visitors in their first innings, bagging 46 of their 133 runs, and he revived Scotland’s fight along with Berrington as they claimed a total of 11 boundaries between them.

But things fell apart after their 93-run stand was called to a halt when Berrington (59) was given out lbw off the bowling of Michael Rippon.

Matthew Cross was stumped out for four runs by Wesley Barresi off the bowling of Borren, and Con de Lange was bowled lbw by Borren when facing his first ball.

Borren continued to destroy Scotland’s chances as he saw off Taylor for 52 when the Leicestershire all-rounder sent a thin outside edge into Barresi’s hands.

And Borren finished the visitors off with the next ball, taking his figures to four wickets for just one run as he bowled out Alasdair Evans for a duck to leave Scotland all out for 146.
