Cricket: Ruairi’s runs help Carlton II see off Fifers

Teenager Ruairi Macpherson led the way with a composed 40 as Carlton II defeated Dunfermline in a tight match in East One.

With captain Nathan Pietsch and vice-captain Matt Wells both on holiday, the rest of the Carlton II players knew they would have to perform well to record a victory at McKane Park and they did just that.

Scotland under-15 skipper Macpherson took the game by the scruff of the neck with his runs as the visitors posted 162 batting first in Fife.

The bowlers then put in a sterling effort to bowl out the hosts for 150 to secure a tense 12-run win. It was their fourth success of the season to date from five completed matches.

Holy Cross’ good form continued at Roseburn with a comfortable victory over struggling Murrayfield DAFS. Simon McOscar’s 65 was the mainstay of the visitors’ innings of 186-7. Shannon Bonfield then led the way with 3-13 as DAFS were all out for 98 in their reply.

Andrew Chalmers made a half century on his return from injury as Watsonians II defeated Marchmont at Cavalry Park.

The Myreside men made 167 batting first and then the hosts were all out for 110 in reply.

In the lower divisions, it was a great weekend for Morton.

Their three teams won their respective matches in East Four, East Eight and East Nine against Dunfermline Carnegie, Edinburgh South III and Edinburgh South IV.
