Cricket: Kyle Coetzer’s warning for Scotland

KYLE Coetzer has told his side the job is only half done in the wake of Sunday’s win over Kenya.

Coetzer’s Scotland square-up to the Africans again at Mannofield today and the skipper is determined to complete the double that would keep his men in a tight tussle at the top end of the ICC World Cricket League.

Two will qualify for the 2015 World Cup and, with the Scots due to complete their campaign against Ireland later in the summer, victory today is crucial.

Coetzer, celebrating his first win as skipper, said: “It was great to get the victory. The guys were pushed all the way and dug deep. We can take confidence from getting the job done but that game is in the past.

“Now we have to re-focus and concentrate on taking our game to the next level. Kenya will come back hard because they probably felt they should have won on Sunday. We have to be ready for them and make sure we get that second win. There is definitely more to come from our guys.”

Another win today would see the Scots leapfrog the Netherlands, who face leaders Ireland next week. Afghanistan and UAE are also in the mix to claim one of the two automatic World Cup places. The remaining six sides will go into a final qualifying event in New Zealand early next year.

Coetzer added: “We want to book our place at the first opportunity, but we can’t worry about what other sides are doing.”
