Cricket: The kids are all right as RHC III beat the weather

Youngsters Ally Sadler and Callum Clarkson stole the show as RHC III posted their second victory of the East League cricket season on Saturday.

With the weather once again playing havoc with the East One fixtures, the lower leagues came in to the spotlight as club’s worked hard to make sure matches were on.

Peffermill was playable and in East Seven Drummond Trinity hosted RHC III.

Batting first, the home team struggled from the outset and Sadler, the younger brother of Scotland under-19 captain Paddy, took 5-10 from seven overs with 12-year-old Clarkson taking 2-19.

Clarkson’s wickets were his 12th and 13th of the season.

RHC III skipper Fraser West also took 1-7 as Drummond Trinity II were all out for just 64.

The visitors then made their victory target with just three wickets down, Will Blackett (13 not out) finishing things off in style with a six.

It was RHC III’s first win in the league since May 5 while the loss leaves Drummond Trinity II in mid-table.

In East Two, Heriot’s II were thumped by leaders St Boswells.

At Goldenacre, the home team were bowled out for 59 and the Borderers made it home without the loss of a wicket.

In the same division, Freuchie II defeated Leith FAB by 22-runs at Leith Links.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Haddington II saw off Edinburgh University Staff.

In a match also played at Peffermill, the hosts were 115 all out with Haddington II getting home with six wickets in hand.
