Cricket: Holy Cross fly out of blocks with double win

Bowler Shannon Bonfield was the star man as Holy Cross picked up silverware just 24 hours after winning their first league match of the cricket season.

On Saturday, they had got their East One campaign up and running with victory over Largo and on Sunday they then saw off Fauldhouse to clinch the President’s Trophy for 2011, the final having been rained off at the tail end of last summer.

The match was played at Carlton’s Grange Loan ground and batting first, Fauldhouse struggled from early on.

The West Lothian outfit made just 103 with the experienced Bonfield in superb form, taking six wickets for just 11 runs.

Tight bowling spells by Daniel Law and Alan McDonald then made Holy Cross work hard for their victory in reply.

Holy Cross reached their victory target will 11 overs to spare with captain Dougie Russell making 40 in a six-wicket win.
