Cricket: Heriot’s and Carlton turn up heat ahead of city clash

Heriot’s secured their third cup victory on the spin when David Ross, who recently returned to the club from RH Corstorphine, hit a superb 136 to lead them to a 244-run win over Edinburgh Accies. He was backed up by 89 from young Kiwi Bradley Kneebone as they made 346-3 batting first.

In reply Accies were all out for 102 to leave them bottom of group B with the cup now taking a break until next month.

Over at Grange Loan in group E Carlton too scored more than 300 runs to set up a 221-run victory over Falkland.

Scotland duo Preston Mommsen and Fraser Watts scored 116 and 115 respectively in Carlton’s 307-3 and the bowling attack then showed discipline to wrap up the win.

A third Edinburgh club – Grange – top group C after three matches following a good win at Fauldhouse.

In West Lothian the main men with the bat for the Stockbridge outfit were Australian teenager George Munsey and Kiwi Simon Taylor. Both made 60, Taylor not out, as they posted 247-8.

Gregor Maiden and new seam recruit Raj Routray then took three wickets each to help wrap up the match.

Brayden Tracey scored 115 and Cedric English 95, but it still was not enough as SMRH went down at Prestwick.

The Inverleith men have now lost three from three in group H after this seven-wicket loss.

Watsonians top group A, but they saw Saturday’s match called off. The Myresiders took two points from the match after Weirs failed to find a ground to play at with their Albert Park home still undergoing renovation work.

West Lothian travelled north to Aberdeenshire in group F, but came back down the road after a defeat.

And in group G, RH Corstorphine’s troubles continued yesterday as they were defeated by Stoneywood Dyce. Aberdeen captain Michael Leask blasted a superb century from just 70 balls to lead them to the win.

The match was played at Stirling County’s New Williamsfield ground as work is still going on at RH Corstorphine’s East Barnton Avenue home.
