Arbroath run feast too rich for Stirling County

Brendon Ford and Fraser Burnett struck centuries to set up a total of 412 for five – one of the biggest in the tournament and the best at Lochlands.

The pair featured in a second-wicket stand of 222 before Ford perished for 145 and former skipper Burnett for 155.

Such a lofty target was never likely to be within the scope of the visitors, particularly when they lost Sean Lyon immediately after the restart.

However, a defiant knock by Matthew Tweedie delayed the inevitable. He became the third centurion of the contest before being stranded on 115 when he ran out of partners.

There were also batting fireworks at Perth, where Falkland’s Jack Henderson plundered the Doo’cot attack for 137 not out.

His effort guided the Fifers to 278 for four and, to complete a day of misery for the hosts, they were skittled for only 46.

Carlton carried their fine Eastern Premiership form on to the knockout stage with success at the expense of Clydesdale at Grange Loan.

Fraser Watts and Hamish Gardiner provided the ideal launchpad with an opening partnership of 97 before the former was trapped in front for 47.

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen holed out going for a straight six to give Dale a further boost.

However, Gardiner kept up the momentum with Rory McCann, taking the score to 181, when Gardiner’s stumps were shattered by Con de Lange. He made 77.

De Lange then removed McCann for 47 and some powerful shots in the closing overs enabled the home side to post a target of 266. Roy McCloy snatched an early scalp before a solid stand between de Lange and Richie Berrington offered hope to the Titwood men.

De Lange departed for 61, nicking Cheeky Gosain to Stevie Gilmour. Berrington brought up his half-century, only for Gardiner to accept a sharp catch off Gosain to make it 160 for five.

The tail failed to wag and Carlton went through with ease.

Grange made light work of ousting Uddingston at Raeburn Place, rattling up an impressive 307 for eight, then sending Uddy sliding to 150 all out. George Munsey took the batting plaudits with 79, stoutly supported by Tom Sole (68). Sole also sparkled with the ball, bagging five for 23.

Ewan Chalmers hit prime form at Myreside, where Watsonians outgunned RH Corstorphine by 51 runs.

Chalmers made 101 to inspire Sonians to 237 for seven.

His namesake, Andrew, also contributed handsomely, following up his 58 with a haul of three wickets.
