Cricket: Mulligan comes up short in Fauldhouse win

DARREN MULLIGAN came agonisingly close to a century as reigning champions Fauldhouse got their fourth win of the East League Division One season on Saturday.

At Academy Park the West Lothian outfit batted first and scored 255-5, Mulligan hitting 98 not out and Franny Mahon making 48. In reply hosts Edinburgh II were bowled out for 130, Alan McDonald the pick of the Fauldhouse bowlers with 3-17.

In the top-of-the-table clash at Myreside, Watsonians II defeated Edinburgh Accies by 132 runs. Former captain Mark Yellowlees scored a half century for the hosts as they made 224 all out.

Andy Learmonth then took three wickets opening the bowling and, despite some resistance from Mick Raso, Richard Crosby cleaned up the Accies tail, taking 4-4 as they were all out for 72.

Grange II defeated Boroughmuir at Meggetland, skipper Bryan Parkinson hitting 54 as the visitors chased down 'Muir's 126 to win by four wickets.

Euan Smith led the way with 58 as Holy Cross beat Largo by 32 runs at Arboretum. Charlie Ellis also hit a half century for the home team.

Marchmont, on a high from reaching the Masterton Trophy semi-finals in midweek, saw off Leith FAB in Division Two, Will Collier hitting 53 and then taking four wickets to guide them to a 42-run win.

The individual performance of the day came in Division Six where Allan Watson scored 51 and took 7-13 as the Old Contemptibles defeated Heriot's III by 100 runs at Goldenacre.
