Cricket: Corstorphine savour taste of teen spirit

RH CORSTORPHINE will be able to draw on one of the most youthful squads in Scottish cricket when their national cup bid gets under way with a trip to Dunfermline tomorrow.

The Barnton-based team is likely to include 16-year-olds Oasmann Malik and Kevin Meier while Joe Kinghorn-Gray, 17, is another knocking on the first XI door.

Club official Arnie Sathiy said: "There is momentum right through from the kwik cricket section to skipper Rob More's first XI. In a recent President's Trophy win over Drummond Trinity we fielded three players - Nicky Brunton, Ally Sadler and Rob Clarkston - who had a combined aged of 44 years.

"Regulars Azhar Abid, Gordon Lamb and Kevin West all came out of a team that won the Scottish youth title 12 years ago and we are hoping soon to repeat that achievement."

The Scottish Cup draw has thrown up all-Premiership clashes with Arbroath awaiting Heriot's and Watsonians heading to Stoneywood Dyce.

Edinburgh Accies seamer Dan Rixon will hope to repeat his ten-wicket haul against Gala in their match with Poloc, Carlton entertain Renfrew, SMRH face Uddingston and Holy Cross have a tough trip to Kelburne.
