Cricket: Centurions abound for Capital's clubs

Luke HAYES and Andy Learmonth were the toast of the East League on Saturday after they both hit superb centuries to lead their respective sides to victory.

Hayes made 131 not out in East One for Murrayfield DAFS as they notched up 280-6 batting first against Glenrothes. Tom Wheeler and Melvyn Clench then took three wickets apiece as the Fifers were all out for just 120.

In the same division over at Arboretum, Learmonth made 100 not out as Watsonians II chased down the total of 172-7 set by hosts Holy Cross.

Carlton II fought back to defeat Marchmont at Grange Loan. Ben Duerden top scored with 60, but Euan Granger took four wickets for Marchmont as Carlton II were all out for 164.

Rich Metcalfe and Nathan Pietsch both took three wickets apiece as Marchmont were bowled out for 152 in reply in a game that could have gone either way.

Alan MacDonald recorded the remarkable figures of four wickets for no runs as Fauldhouse thumped Largo. Batting first the West Lothian men made 231 all out and then the Fifers were skittled out for just 67 as the 2009 champions won by 164-runs.
