Craig Matheson suffers setback in cup race

Glenmuir PGA: Craig Matheson's hopes of making a second successive PGA Cup appearance suffered a setback in round two of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship at The Belfry.

The Falkirk Tryst pro, who played in the Great Britain & Ireland team at The Carrick on Loch Lomond two years ago, slipped down the leaderboard in the Peugeot-supported event after a three-over 75.

It left him on three-over at halfway and facing a huge task to get back into contention for one of the ten spots up for grabs in fellow-Scot Russell Weir's team to take on the United States at CordeValle, California, in September. Drumpellier's Ian Taylor is also on 147 after a 72, with Anglo Albert MacKenzie a shot ahead of his two compatriots.

Englishman Michael Watson moved to five-under-par for the tournament after carding a six-under 66. Watson rattled in an eagle at the par-5 sixth along with six birdies to get his championship bid up-and-running. But Ladybank's Alan Lockhart, the leading Scot after the opening round, missed the cut by a shot after a second-round 77 for 148.
