Coppell takes over as Bristol City boss

BRISTOL City have confirmed the appointment of Steve Coppell as their new manager on a 12-month rolling contract.

The 54-year-old former England international has been out of work since resigning from his post at Reading last summer. Coppell will replace Gary Johnson, who left Ashton Gate in March, although caretaker manager Keith Millen will stay in charge for the last two games of the season.

Coppell said: "Every manager knows that promotion is his brief. This is a club that wants to go forward and wants to be in the top division."
