Victory for Alex Marshall and Paul Foster in lawn bowls at Kelvingrove in Glasgow today saw the tally pass the 11 won in Melbourne in 2006.

With six days to go in the competition, the host nation needs three more medals to beat its record haul of 33 medals in Edinburgh in 1986.

Scotland’s athletes have so far earned 12 gold, eight silver and eleven bronze medals. They sit third in the medal table behind Australia and England.

Mike Whittingham, from the sportscotland institute of sport, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see Alex Marshall and Paul Foster secure Team Scotland’s 12th gold medal of the Games.

“Alex and Paul have dominated world bowls over the last few years and to add another Commonwealth title to their collection, especially one as historic as this, is extremely fitting.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of the Team Scotland athletes competing and I’m sure they will be going all out to try to add to the already impressive medal tally.”

Judo has earned Scotland the most medals so far, with gold winners including team flag bearer Euan Burton and sisters Louise and Kimberley Renicks.
