Claire Queen off to decent start

CLAIRE Queen is the leading Scot after the opening round of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School in La Manga.

The Carrick on Loch Lomond player shot a one-over-par 74 on the South Course to lie in the top 20, just ahead of Carly Booth after her 75. On day when all four Scots were in action on the same course, Pamela Feggans and Heather MacRae signed for 77s.

"I definitely did not play anywhere close to what I'd hoped. But I'm positive and happy with where my game has been so I'll try and forget about today," said Macrae, the former Gullane trainee who is now attached to Downfield. "I've been working quite hard so I just have to pick myself up and there are four rounds to go.

"After the first stage I stayed out here instead of playing in the snow at home so I've been practising everything really."
