City cyclist Ayre in gear for sprint title

City of Edinburgh
cyclist Kenny Ayre maintained his challenge for the British Cycling Sprinters’ League title
after finishing fifth in the
latest round of the competition at Herne Hill in London.

With the scheduled track meeting at Caird Park in Dundee postponed because of rain, Ayre opted to make the trip south and although he was beaten in the second round by Andrew Leveton (Ashwell CC), the Scot took fifth place overall and now has a five-point advantage in the overall rankings with two rounds to go.

Also in action was Ayre’s colleague Phil Trodden, who continued his fine run of form with third place in the 25 mile event.

Meanwhile, another City of Edinburgh colleague, Kayleigh Brogan, featured in a strong field at the two-day Tour of Blackpool, the latest round in the British Women’s Road race Series. And the Scottish
champion acquitted herself well, taking sixth place overall.
