City beat the blues to advance

City OF EDINBURGH overcame their injury woes to advance to the men’s Scottish Volleyball Cup quarter-finals with the minimum of fuss.

Player-coach Barry McGuigan was concerned he would not be able to raise a team for Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at second division Su Ragazzi II, who have caused cup upsets in the past. But the team came through in straight sets 25-15, 25-23, 25-20 to preserve their unbeaten record in league and cup.

City of Glasgow Ragazzi beat City Of Edinburgh II 26-24, 25-15, 25-20 to also reach the quarter-finals on a day when results went as expected. Kilmarnock Blaze and Glasgow Mets also made it through as all the big guns reached the last eight.

In the fourth round of the women’s Scottish Cup, City of Edinburgh overcame South Ayrshire 25-10, 25-21, 25-20.
