Catriona Matthew battles to par round in San Francisco

Scotland's Catriona Matthew battled her way to a round of par 72 as she remained five shots off the lead on day two of the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in San Francisco.

On a day which saw much movement at the top of the leaderboard, Matthew fell into trouble with dropped shots on the sixth and 11th holes, but birdied the 13th and 18th to make it home even, and at four under for the tournament.

That leaves her in a tie for ninth place, five shots behind Japan’s Haru Nomura, who leads by three after a round of 70.

Overnight leader So Yeon Ryu of Korea struggled to a 75, 12 shots over her opening 63, to drop down to a tie for second, alongside Na Yeon Choi and Minjee Lee, who fired a 65 to move up 57 places on the leaderboard.
