Campbell sweeps way to curling title

Capital curler Colin Campbell and skipper David Edwards were celebrating last night after finishing third at the Aberdeen City Open to top the final Scottish Tour standings.

The Galbraith Trophy plus £2000 prize money became theirs when closest rival Murray Young bowed out in yesterday’s quarter-finals. Campbell and Edwards beat Murrayfield skip Kerry Barr 9-4 at the same stage after picking up five stones at the second end.

They then went head-to-head in the semis with defending champion and local favourite Tom Brewster, but it was the world silver medallist who went through before retaining his title by defeating Holland’s Jaap van Dorp 4-2 in the final.

Campbell’s team scored four at the sixth end to beat David Jack 9-3 in the third place play-off match.
