Calderwood calls on Hibs to recreate stunning performance to sink Motherwell

Colin Calderwood today called on his players to reproduce the stunning performance which crushed SPL leaders Rangers in front of their own fans at Easter Road, starting with tomorrow's clash with Motherwell.

The Hibs boss knows just how badly his side's supporters felt let down in losing the first Edinburgh derby of the season and now he's looking to "compensate" them by building on that astonishing 3-0 victory at Ibrox.

And in doing so, Calderwood believes Hibs can start to regain the ground lost in recent weeks by cutting the gap of 11 points between them and the third-placed Fir Park outfit.

Calderwood said: "You reflect on the Rangers game and enjoy it, it was a terrific night for us but very quickly, the way the schedule is, we are into the weekend and it would be nice to be sitting next week looking back on two victories.

"That's what we have to focus on, there's no point having a nice day then nothing for the next two or three games. We have to accumulate points.

"The obvious thing also is not to let the third team pull too far away from us and, with Motherwell being up there, this is the perfect opportunity, a good test to see if we can get to the level we played on Wednesday.? That is what has to happen. We also want to produce something in front of our own fans. We had a fantastic support at Ibrox but there are only so many phone calls to friends they could make, we have to take it to a wider audience.

"We want to compensate them for what happened last weekend and really get started."

Calderwood admitted he was relishing the opportunity to pit his wits against Craig Brown, the manager who gave him each of his 36 Scotland caps and took him to both Euro 96 and the World Cup finals in France two years later.

Revealing he still follows some of Brown's methods to this day, he said: "Craig did well for me. There was a different way of training and something I have carried on."

Hibs could also be boosted by the return of Colin Nish who has missed the last three matches with an ankle injury. The striker has returned to training but a seat on the bench tomorrow could be as much as he might hope for, while Derek Riordan, suspended for the Rangers game, is available again.
