Byrne finishes well for top-25 berth

ASIAN TOUR: Banchory’s James Byrne staged a strong finish to secure a top-25 finish in the Panasonic India Open in New Delhi.

The Scot signed off with a two-under-par 70, matching his opening effort, for a one-over-par total of 289 and a share of 24th spot.

It earned Byrne, who signed for four birdies in his round, the position as leading Scot as he leap-frogged Ross Bain, who closed with a 73 for an aggregate of 291.

Digvijay Singh, of India, closed with a flawless six-under-par 66 to end an agonising 12-year wait for his maiden title.

He produced a grandstand finish with a 12-foot birdie putt on the last to defeat Asian Tour winners Siddikur, of Bangladesh, and Gaganjeet Bhullar, of India, by two shots.

“This is very special for me. There’s no feeling better than winning an Asian Tour title in India at the Delhi Golf Club,” said Digvijay.

“I’ve won on the local circuit before but this takes the cake.”
