Broughton beat St Boswells for Bowl final place

Broughton RFC booked their place in the RBS East Regional Bowl final against St Boswells with victory over Leith in the all-Edinburgh semi-final on Saturday.

With Broughton’s Wardie home deemed unplayable the match was swiftly moved to Leith’s Academy Park.

In the first half things were pretty tight, but Broughton managed to build up an 8-0 lead heading in to the second 40 minutes thanks to a try from Jonny Wells and a Geambo Bizo penalty.

The Bizo penalty had come after a Leith player was yellow carded and when he was yellowed again on the stroke of half-time it meant his afternoon was over.

Broughton too were down to 14 men early on after the break, allowing Leith to go 12-8 up before the visitors were back to their full compliment.

A second try of the day from Wells restored Broughton’s lead and when Johnny Beaton and Khal Mohammed went over they were 27-12 up and had a foot in the regional final.

A late converted try came from Leith, but Broughton held on 27-19 and will play St Boswells, who saw off Moray House 71-0, in the final on February 23 at a venue to be confirmed.

In the RBS Edinburgh Regional Shield, Jordan Eales and Paul Voy both scored try hat-tricks in Preston Lodge’s 80-0 win over Ross High while there were also victories for Linlithgow and Edinburgh Northern.

On league duty Dalkeith beat Forrester in East Two and Penicuik saw off RDVC in East Three.
