Brora strikes a blow for golf in north

Brora will become the most northerly golf club on the British mainland to hold a professional event when it co-hosts the Tartan Tour's Northern Links Callaway Challenge later this season.

Along with Tain Golf Club, the two courses will stage the 36-hole contest which will be the penultimate event on the Scottish PGA's order of merit.

Brora, more than 50 miles north of the Barclays Scottish Open venue of Castle Stuart, will take the distinction of being the most northerly host of a pro event away from nearby Golspie, which held a SPGA Assistants' tournament in 1992 and 1993.

"Tain and Brora are two of Scotland's outstanding golf courses and it is only their location away from the majority of the population that has prevented them from being more widely recognised," said Scottish PGA secretary Michael MacDougall. "I hope that this will go some way to breaking down that barrier."
