New Celtic cruiserweight
boxing champion Stephen
Simmons is already plotting his next title fight after comfortably beating Michael Sweeney at the Emirates Arena during Saturday night’s Fighting Pride of Scotland show, writes NEIL McGLADE.

The Edinburgh fighter, who has now won all eight professional fights, performed impeccably, using the jab to great effect but also displayed some lethal combination shots which forced his Irish opponent into retiring from the contest at the end of the third round.

The 28-year-old said: “I hurt him at the end of that round. He’s a tough opponent but he asked for the fight, I gave him the fight, and this is just opening doors for me to hopefully get a British or Commonwealth shot or whatever. I am over the moon.”

He added: “I think I can go all the way and clean up the
domestic scene.”
