Haye and Fury trade insults at fight announcement

TYSON Fury yesterday lit the blue touch paper ahead of his highly-anticipated fight against David Haye by belittling the former WBA heavyweight champion’s record and labelling him a “celebrity little fighting man”.

The 24-year-old Fury is unbeaten in 21 professional fights and has opted to face fellow British heavyweight Haye rather than fight Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev to set up a title shot against Wladimir Klitschko.

He is known for his no-nonsense approach and was attempting to rile Haye for the majority of their London press conference previewing the 28 September fight in Manchester.

Fury beat American Steve Cunningham in New York three months ago to maintain his unblemished record and was quick to deride Haye’s achievements and hit out at his opponent’s new media career, which has included a reality show appearance.

Addressing Haye, Fury said: “Let’s not get things confused – I’m a dog and I am chucking you a bone. Before the Tyson Fury fight, where were you going to go? I’m giving you a chance to a little claim to fame. I’m on everyone’s tongue and you are the one who just stinks the place out against people.

“He [Haye] has a lot to say but after the fight with me he will have a lot to say and people can laugh at him.

“I have delivered 21 times in a row, what has David Haye done? Everyone David Haye has fought, including [Wladimir] Klitschko, I would smash to bits. Haye is only interested in fame and fortune. I fight because I want to fight.

“You are a celebrity little fighting man and when you come up against a man who has been training for 18 months like a Trojan, and you have been faffing around playing on the television, you are going to be levelled.”

Fury believes his high level of determination proves he has enough spirit to see off 32-year-old Haye.

“I’m going to train hard and I’m hoping for a fight. I’m not hard to hit and I will stand in front of you, but I land bombs if they land them,” he added. “I have got 100 per cent heart and determination that can back up what I say. Whatever he brings to the table my heart and determination can overcome.

“The will to win and never-say-die, don’t doubt yourself for a second.”

Fury did concede that if he loses the fight he would freely admit to his opponent being the better boxer. But he also feels he will be too strong for Haye if he can keep his emotions in check inside the ring.

“People might want to see Tyson Fury get knocked out because I might be the brash talker and say a lot, but I have backed it up so far,” he said. “If David can beat me, then congratulations to him, he will have put me out of my misery. There will be no hard feelings at all. If I lose to the better man on the night, what can I do?

“I can only train, eat right and sleep right and give everything I’ve got, if he beats me, he beats me. I can’t do any more than what God has given me to do. A man can only do what a man can do, but I believe what I can do will be good enough to beat not only David Haye, but the Klitschkos as well.

“I always get carried away, whether it is playing football or a computer game, it is all or nothing. My emotions rule my body a lot of the time, and that can be a downfall, but I can’t be faulted for giving everything.
