Flynn defects to pro ranks

GILMERTON’S Scottish amateur bantamweight champion Scott Flynn has defected to the pro ranks on the eve of the European Boxing Championships in Croatia.

Flynn - a classy southpaw who has boxed many times for Scotland - confirmed : "I am going to sign pro forms with Frank Warren within the next ten days.

"I can’t wait as I will make my debut on the Alex Arthur come-back bill at Meadowbank on March 27. I am 20 years old and now I want to make some money with my fists. I honestly believe I can have a big impact on the pro game."

Less thrilled with the news was Scottish national amateur coach John McKay, who selected Flynn for this month’s Olympic qualifying bouts in the European Championships in Pula, Croatia. Said McKay: "Even though I wondered why Scott hadn’t been at our last three training sessions for Croatia I am really sad to lose him as I thought he could have done well for us."
