Boxing: Wembley an inspiration to Kenny Anderson

Edinburgh super-middleweight Kenny Anderson has promised George Groves a boxing equivalent of what happened on the Wembley football pitch in 1977.

Anderson will fight Londoner Groves for his British title at Wembley Arena on March 16 and admits he is inspired by the Tartan Army’s famous celebrations of almost 35 years ago.

Anderson said: “I aim to do to Groves at Wembley what the Scottish football fans did in the old stadium in 1977 when they took away the goalposts and turf.

“This time, I’m going to take away Groves’ British title.

“I’ve had a big pre-fight boost from my sponsors, Buckstone Roofing, who have provided me with extra cash to hire top-class sparring partners. The roofing company’s boss, Scott Coburn, wants me to bring back the British super-middleweight title to Edinburgh.

“My sparring partners will be the best but we are keeping their identities under wraps at the present time. I’m also concentrating on extra strength and conditioning work because I was stronger than Groves when we last fought back in 2010. It created problems for him back then and I think I can give him problems again.”
