Boxing: Meadowbank to showcase latest talent

Meadowbank amateur boxing club are hoping their 14-bout show at Woodburn Miners Club in Dalkeith tomorrow evening can act as a major relaunching exercise.

The club, which once counted top ring stars like Kenny Anderson and Kevin Green among its ranks, aims to restore itself as one of Edinburgh’s top clubs.

The show sees newly-crowned eastern lightweight champion Lewis Paulin in an all-Edinburgh scrap with Leith Victoria’s Sean White while big-punching middleweight Greg Murphy challenges Cleland’s Alan McGlashan.

Scotland’s most succesful female amateur boxer Jane Miller takes on Meadowbank’s two-time Scottish champion Katy Atkin at light-welterweight while the club’s other rising female star, Louise Irvine, will clash against Cleland’s Vicky Horne.

“We have recently registered 17 boxers who are eligible to fight this season and more are in the training pipeline,’’ said club coach Mark Geraghty:

Admittance will be available on the door with boxing due to start at 7pm.
