Boxing: Colne calling on Anderson once more

Edinburgh’s 12-stone Celtic champion Kenny Anderson is hoping that the Colne Civic Hall ring in Lancashire will prove lucky for him once more when he goes head-to-head with Sheffield opponent Wayne Reed on Friday.

His previous two appearances in Colne earlier this year saw him stop another Sheffield opponent, Paul Morby in three rounds, and Joe Ree in four.

Reed has not only won his last two bouts, but he also gave former two time world supermiddleweight champion Robin Reid a decent argument before former WBC and WBF 12-stone kingpin Reid stopped Reed in four rounds at Sheffield in June.

“I honestly expect to beat whoever they put in front of me at this level as this is more than just a warm-up eight-rounder for me,” said Anderson confidently.

“My manager Steve Wods has formally applied to have me declared the next mandatory contender for Londoner George Groves’ British title by the Board of Control after Groves sees off his next opponent early in the new year – so I have to keep winning.’’
