Boxing: Buchanan to box in same show as son

It is sure to be a family affair as Clovenstone Boxing Club host their club show at Shottstown Miners in Penicuik tomorrow.

A total of 14 bouts have been arranged, with a mix of novices in their early teens to more
experienced fighters looking to deliver ahead of the Scottish Championships later this month.

For Stuart Buchanan,
however, not only will he face his first competitive fight in over 12 years against Lochend’s Michael Bain, the father-of-one will also have the privilege of watching his 13-year-old son Jamie in action.

“I’m delighted to be fighting in the same show as my son.” Buchanan said. “Everybody has got the potential and I see that in Jamie. He’s very keen and I want to be there and support him as much as I can. I had my first fight when I was 12, but haven’t fought since I was 15 and that was in the Scottish Championships, so I don’t want Jamie to stop like I did.”

Buchanan had nothing but praise for what Rab McEwan, father of middleweight professional Craig, has achieved for the club which is located in
an area that he believes could benefit from further social and recreational opportunities.

He added: “It’s one of the greatest things that has happened to the area and Rab and Craig have done wonders for the community.”
