Boxing: Skey's the limit as Kevin eyes possible bout in Cuba

As the sole boxer representing Edinburgh and the Lothians in tomorrow's Scotland versus England youth boxing international at Coatbridge's Time Capsule, Lochend featherweight Kevin Skey might be forgiven for feeling burdened by the responsibility.

On the contrary, the Loanhead stonemason, 19, is looking forward to his clash with England's John Saunders, saying: "I aim to improve on my showing earlier this year in Cardiff where I won a silver medal in a Four Nations tournament in the 57kg final, so I've been sparring with pro featherweight Davie Cowan and my Lochend clubmate David Dickson, who have really made me sharp for my bout with Saunders.''

Leading ABS official Jimmy Dunn has revealed that Skey has a further huge incentive to impress.

"Every boxer fighting for their country against England this weekend and also Sweden on December 18 at the same venue, will be potentially in the frame to box for Scotland in planned internationals in Cuba and New York in 2011.

"So a great performance could really pay off for guys like Kevin Skey.''
