Boxing: Pro debut win for McCallum

Edinburgh supermiddleweght pro debutant John McCallum swept to an impressive 59-55 points win over tough Irish opponent, Phil Townley, after six rounds on promoter Paul Graham's armed services charity bill at the Wishaw Sports centre last night.

Graham sang McCallum's praises afterwards, saying: "McCallum showed touches of Billy Joe Saunders in there tonight and I'm confident that he will fight for a title after another handful of fights if he keeps up the form."

Meanwhile, Gilmerton featherweight Jason Hastie was having his first fight for over a year on the same Wishaw bill, but the Capital boxer showed little evidence of ring rust as he blew away Mark Bett in just 90 seconds of the first round.

Post-fight, Hastie dedicated his victory to his Uncle, Rab Hastie, who passed away on Thursday.
