Boxing: McEwan still a Golden Boy

EDINBURGH middleweight Craig McEwan will stay contracted to Oscar De La Hoya's 'Golden Boy Promotions' when he returns to his home city next month.

McEwan, who ran up 19 wins out of 20 pro fights when fighting out of Los Angeles, had been in talks over joining Frank Warren's camp.

However, the former Clovenstone fighter revealed: "I've been advised that, although I parted from my American manager in Los Angeles and I'll be seeking a new manager once I return home at the end of July, Golden Boy still have me under contract.

"They've told me that I'll fight in Scotland and the rest of the UK under Hatton Promotions, although I will be trained by Billy Nelson at his Stepps gym.

"My plan is to get three meaningful fights in Britain, starting in September, then fight for a major title in the United States."

McEwan claims American TV company HBO have asked Golden Boy about covering some of his fights after impressing them with his recent showing against world-rated Andy Lee, despite the Irishman inflicting his first professional defeat.
