Boxing: McCallum in pro debut on Wishaw bill

Edinburgh super-middleweight pro debutant John McCallum is fighting Irish serving soldier Phil Townley tonight over six rounds at Wishaw's Sports Centre with all proceeds being donated to the ex-services charity SAFF for the families of wounded ex-service men.

Gilmerton featherweight Jason Hastie will also box on the Wishaw bill against Lanarkshire's Mark Bett whom Hastie previously stopped in Paisley in 2008.

Elsewhere, Leith Victoria club coach Ray Gibson is keeping it in the family by seconding his nephew, light heavyweight Connor Brown, in the latter's Scottish Novices 81kg title final at Moodiesburn near Glasgow this Sunday when the Capital youngster clashes with Blantryre's David Jamieson.

Brown (Leith Vic's) will join Queensferry lightweight Lewis Paulin who is contesting the Scottish Novices 60kg final against Coatbridge Barn club's Sean Lennon on the same bill.

• CLOVENSTONE club boss, Rab McEwan, is staging a 13 bout Novices bill at Penicuik's Shottstown Miners club this Sunday (1pm) featuring an eastern select versus an Aberdeen select. Admission, price 10, is available on the door.
