Bowls: Willie Wood takes mentor role

Scotland’s most capped Commonwealth Games bowler Willie Wood will mentor four players who have been selected to represent Scotland in the inaugural Dutch Open at Ons Kinnehim Bowls Club in Haarlem, Netherlands from 6 to 11 May.

It will be Wood’s first overseas duty since he was made Bowls Scotland Ambassador last year following his retirement from the international outdoor game, enabling him to continue to help his fellow Scots excel at the highest level in the game. The quartet – accompanied by Wood, who is also the record holder for the most world championship medals – comprises Robert Grant, Neil Speirs, Lauren Baillie and Becky Campbell, all of whom are members of the current Bowls Scotland elite squad.
